The iPhone 17 Pro is the top-of-the-line model in the 17 series, featuring a 6.3-inch screen and a weight of 206g, making it easy to hold in one hand. It differs from the iPhone 17 in its third camera: a 48MP telephoto lens with 4x optical zoom and 8x optical zoom.

Inside, there's an A19 Pro chip and a vapor chamber cooling system, and the case is made of unibody aluminum. Ceramic Shield 2 glass is on the front, and Ceramic Shield is on the back. The USB-C port operates over USB 3 at speeds of up to 10 Gbps, so long videos transfer to your computer faster than from the iPhone 17. The Camera Control button on the side launches the camera and zooms in and out with a swipe of your finger.

The Pro Max is larger: a 6.9-inch screen, weighs 233g, has up to 39 hours of video, and offers a 2TB version, which the 17 Pro doesn't have. If you can fit your phone in your pocket and hold it in one hand, get the 17 Pro. If you do a lot of reading and watching videos on your phone, the Pro Max will be worth its size.

Both have a 6.3-inch screen with a refresh rate of up to 120 Hz. The iPhone 17 is 29 g lighter and cheaper, but it has two cameras and USB 2.0. Paying extra for the Pro makes sense if you zoom in or frequently stream video over a cable. For calls and photos on the go, the iPhone 17 is more than enough.

How much memory should I take?

The 17 Pro comes in three storage options: 256GB, 512GB, and 1TB. 256GB is sufficient for storing photos in the cloud. High-resolution video from the telephoto lens takes up space quickly, so 512GB is more convenient for those who shoot videos. 1TB is ideal for storing several years' worth of video. Storage is not expandable after purchase.
