What's different about the MacBook Neo?
The MacBook Neo is Apple's most affordable laptop. It features an A18 Pro chip with a 6-core processor, 5 graphics cores, and a 16-core Neural Engine, supported by Apple Intelligence. Apple targets it at students and those who need a laptop for everyday computing.
The 13-inch Liquid Retina display has 2408 x 1506 pixels. It weighs 1.23 kg, the same as the 13-inch MacBook Air. The battery lasts up to 16 hours of video playback and up to 11 hours of Wi-Fi internet use.
There are two ports, both USB-C: one USB 3 and one USB 2, plus a headphone jack. It supports one external monitor with a resolution of up to 4K at 60 Hz. Colors: silver, powder, citrus, and indigo.
The Magic Keyboard comes in two variants: with and without Touch ID. It features Wi-Fi 6E wireless networking, and the A18 Pro graphics support hardware-based ray tracing.
Who will find Neo too small?
The Neo has two ports, both USB-C, and no Thunderbolt. It only supports one external monitor. If you have a dual-screen docking station or work with Thunderbolt drives, consider the MacBook Air: it has two Thunderbolt 4 ports and supports two external monitors.
Which to choose: Neo or MacBook Air
- The Neo is suitable for email, browsing, video calls, and presentations. It's sufficient for school and university. - The MacBook Air 13" weighs the same. It has an M5 chip, 16 GB of memory, up to 18 hours of video playback, MagSafe charging, and two Thunderbolt 4 ports. It's a good choice if you're buying a laptop for several years or need it for photography and editing. - The Neo has 8 GB of memory in any configuration, and you can't upgrade it after purchase. If you keep dozens of tabs open and heavy programs running, consider the Air.
How much storage should I take?
The Neo is available with 256 or 512 GB of storage, and the capacity remains the same after purchase. 256 GB is sufficient if you store documents and photos in the cloud. If you plan to store a photo archive or travel movies on your laptop, go with 512 GB.
