MacBook Pro 14″
A powerful tool for tasks where the Air can't handle anything: editing, graphics, compiling, and virtual machines. It's not just the chip that's different—the Pro has active cooling, so it can handle the workload for longer periods of time, rather than peaks. If that kind of workload only happens once a week, the extra cost won't be worth it.

What's different about the 14″ MacBook Pro?
The 14-inch MacBook Pro is the most compact Pro model, with a 14.2-inch screen and a weight of 1.55 to 1.62 kg, depending on the chip. It is built using three chips: the M5, M5 Pro, and M5 Max.
The Liquid Retina XDR display maintains 1000 nits across the entire display and up to 1600 nits at peak brightness, with a ProMotion refresh rate of up to 120 Hz. A variant with a nano-texture coating is also available, reducing glare.
It has more ports than the Air: three Thunderbolt ports, HDMI, an SDXC slot, MagSafe 3, and a headphone jack. The battery lasts up to 24 hours of video playback on the M5 model, up to 22 hours on the M5 Pro, and up to 20 hours on the M5 Max.
Which chip to choose
- M5: 10 processor cores and 10 graphics cores, Thunderbolt 4 ports, and up to two external monitors. Apple targets it at students and aspiring creators. - M5 Pro: 15 or 18 processor cores, 16 or 20 graphics cores, Thunderbolt 5 ports with speeds up to 120 Gbps, and up to three external monitors. Suitable for developers and engineers. - M5 Max: 18 processor cores, 32 or 40 graphics cores, and up to four external monitors. It is used for 3D and working with AI models.
The MacBook Pro with M5 Pro and M5 Max feature a High Power mode that spins the fans faster, allowing the laptop to perform faster under heavy loads.
How much memory and storage should I buy?
Memory and storage are not upgradeable after purchase, so they are selected along with the chip. The M5 comes with 16 to 32 GB, while the M5 Pro and M5 Max come with up to 128 GB. Storage starts at 1 TB.
- 16 GB with M5 is enough for photography and programming without virtual machines. - 24–48 GB is needed for video editing and container development. - 64 GB and more are needed for local AI models and heavy 3D.
14″ or 16″, Pro or Air
- 14" or 16". The 16" weighs 2.14 kg and isn't included with the base M5. The 14" is about half a kilogram lighter and is more often taken on trips. - Pro or Air. The Air is lighter and fanless, making it sufficient for school and office use. The Pro is suitable for laptops that run for hours under load or require an XDR display.
